New York’s upcoming movie about the 90 minutes between the dress rehearsal and live airing of the first episode of Saturday Night Live is Saturday Night, and a new trailer dropped September 9. It has everything: Don Pardo’s voice, Chevy Chase strutting, Dan Aykroyd’s mustache, a cue-card mishap, Lorne Michaels saying “Did anyone ask Edison what a light bulb was before he harnessed electricity?,” smoking, fighting, Michael O’Donoghue, John Belushi going AWOL, Rosie Shuster with a Rachel Sennott face, the Green Goblin, J. Jonah Jameson, and Nicholas Braun as Andy Kaufman as Foreign Man. Directed and co-written by Jason Reitman — the son of the director who would go on to give many Saturday Night Live cast members their big film break — Saturday Night hits theaters on October 11, the same date as SNL premiered 49 years ago. Yeah, 49. It’s the 50th season, but it started 49 years ago. Numbers, you know? Also, to avoid confusion, October 11, 2024, is a Friday.
